Members of the Northwest Territorial Pipe Band gathered at the Ceremonial Circle in Yellowknife at noon on Monday, September 19, 2022 to play a few tunes (including Diu Regnare and Amazing Grace) as a tribute to the memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This was an unscheduled event and it did draw some spectators. Participating were Lori Sutherland, Lorie Crawford, Jennifer Zhu, Ian Rennie, Ryan Gordon and Brad Heath. Lori, Ryan and Brad played during the visit in the summer for the Prince of Wales, who is now His Majesty King Charles III.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table this evening at the Yellowknife Community Showcase on September 14, 2022 at the Multiplex. Pipe Major Lori Clark and side drummer Chris Moore are shown here waiting for more people to stop by and talk with us. Also helping out at our table last night were Drum Major Kelly Fischer, side drummer Jennifer Zhu and piper Brad Heath. Piping lessons will start in a couple of weeks - so there's still time to contact us if you're interested in learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipes. You can contact us by email (go to the Contact page) or visit us on our Facebook page (search Northwest Territories Pipe Band). Our group lessons for beginners are tentatively scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed on 8 September 2022. She was the head of state of Canada. The Northwest Territorial Pipe Band expresses its condolences to her family and to the citizens of the Commonwealth and recognizes that her successor, His Majesty King Charles III has now ascended to the Throne. His Majesty's coronation is set for May 6, 2023.
