The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and His other Realms and Territories King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith (aka King Charles III) is happening on 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey, London, England. A concert will then be held at Windsor Castle on the 7th , followed by "The Big Coronation Lunch".  On the 8th there is a promotion of volunteering through "The Big Help Out".

Many people have various views about the Monarchy in Canada, the United Kingdom and world-wide.  For many of us the Monarchy represents a transcendence above political squabbling and a continuity of government that goes beyond the fleeting popularity of politicians and prime ministers.  For others, the Monarchy is a foreign institution.  For yet others, it is a symbol of feudalism and colonialism and anachronistic.

Regardless, the Monarchy is part of our society and the Coronation represents a transition in time from one era to another.  The accession to the throne is the resetting of the regnal year from from 71 Elizabeth II to 1 Charles III.  The Coronation is the formal ceremony.

For the Northwest Territorial Pipe Band, the Band did honour the passing of the late Queen with a performance.  She was a great fan of the bagpipes.  She was half Scottish (the Queen Mother having been from Dundee).  That makes Charles a quarter Scottish (and maybe an eighth Greek and Danish).  But King Charles is also a fan of the bagpipes (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-63396654).  There is a duty piper at Buckingham Palace.

In recognition of the affiliation of the Monarchy with bagpiping, the Northwest Territorial Pipe Band is organizing a "Big Lunch" for 6 May 2023.  It will be too early in the morning to watch the Coronation but there is always time for lunch.  For recipies see:  https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/coronation-recipes .  Of course some haggis has to make an appearance...
